Frequently asked questions
What does the term edition mean?
The prints taken from the “block” or “plate” are counted as the Edition. The print maker will decide in advance how many prints in that colour they are going to make from the block, These final prints making up the edition will then be numbered. I often print 20 in an edition but numbers in the edition vary greatly depending on how complicated a print is and how resilient the block is to inking, printing and cleaning before it starts to breakdown.
If you look at the left bottom corner under the print there will be a number which looks like a fraction, such as 11/20. The bottom number tells you the edition size- in this case 20 and the top number tells you in this case it was the 11th print. There are only 20 in the world but yours is the only number 11.
Check that the print is signed in the right bottom corner and you are on the way to knowing and trusting that you have your unique print from the artist and how many others there are out there!
